PELHAM – The Pelham Public Library is hosting a Climbing 101 program on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. for those interested in learning about rock climbing.

Rock climbing is a relatively young sport that is quickly growing in popularity all across the United States, and the Birmingham area is no exception.

The greater Birmingham area has inside and outside opportunities for climbers of all skill levels to enjoy the sport.

Join local climbing guide David Smith at the Pelham Public Library for an overview of the fundamentals of rock climbing. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the history of the sport, as well as the skills, techniques and gear necessary to enjoy it safely.

This is a free event and may fill quickly. Please call the library at 620-6418 for more information or to reserve a seat.

The library aims to host one free program per month for the public. Pelham Library Supervisor, whose name is also David Smith, said library events usually have a good response from the public.

The library has hosted programs covering topics such as meditation, yoga, gardening, how to make kombucha tea, Medicare seminars and much more. The library tries to cover a wide spectrum of topics to appeal to everyone.

In February, the library will host an introduction to Alabama birding program for those who want to learn more about the state bird or for birders who wants to take it to the next level.
