Albert John Schukoske
Columbiana

Albert John Schukoske, age 83, beloved husband, father, and grandfather of Columbiana, went home to Heaven Thursday, Jan. 25 after a brief illness.

The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28 at Liberty Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 29 at the church with Dr. Tim Cox officiating. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Mr. Schukoske was born October 19, 1934 to John and Mary Schukoske in Middleton, Connecticut. Al was a military man, having served his country for over thirty years – first in active duty in the Air Force and then in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he retired as SGM. Most of his civilian life was spent in automation, both in private business and civil service. He was most fond of automating the State of Connecticut budget in the early 70’s.

Mr. Schukoske was a faithful follower of Christ and used his life and talents to serve others and show them the love of Jesus. He loved his church and church family and was well known for always being available for whatever needed to be done whether it was building a wheelchair ramp or cleaning up after a church supper. He was recently named Deacon Emeritus by Liberty Baptist Church after serving 52 years as deacon.

In retirement, he volunteered regularly as a chaplain at the Shelby Baptist Association and in disaster relief efforts.

Mr. Schukoske is survived by his wife of 58 years, Merle Smith Schukoske; son, Jay Schukoske (Janet); daughters, Cara Schukoske and Holly Scherzer; four grandchildren, Jacob Scherzer (Claire), Erich Schukoske (Danielle), Ethan Schukoske (Courtney), and Gavin Schukoske; two sisters, Mary Woodward (Bill) and Jane Schukoske; and several nieces and nephews.
