VINCENT – A 47-year-old Vincent man has been released from the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $135,000 after a Shelby County grand jury indicted him on sodomy and solicitation charges involving an underage victim.

John Kevin Taylor, who lists an address on Blue Spring Road in Vincent, was taken into custody on Jan. 30 after a warrant was listed for his arrest following the grand jury’s decision to indict him on the charges on Jan. 10.

Taylor has been indicted on one felony count of second-degree sodomy, two counts of electronic solicitation of a child and three counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes.

Second-degree sodomy and electronic solicitation of a child are Class B felonies, and are punishable by up to 20 years in prison upon conviction. Enticing a child for immoral purposes is a Class C felony, and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.

According to his indictments, Taylor allegedly engaged in “deviate sexual intercourse” with an underage victim between the ages of 12 and 16 between June 1, 2008, and Sept. 30, 2009. Taylor allegedly communicated with the victim through text messages and phone calls between Sept. 1, 2008, and Sept. 1, 2009, and during the same time period also allegedly enticed the victim into his bedroom “for the purpose of proposing to such child the performance of an act which constitutes the offense of sodomy or for the purpose of proposing the fondling or feeling of the sexual genital parts of such child.”

As a condition of Taylor’s bond, he was ordered to not have contact with the victim.

Taylor is scheduled to appear in Shelby County Circuit Court at 8:30 a.m. on March 12 for an arraignment in front of Judge William Bostick.
