Scene safe after meth lab found in Walmart parking lot

ALABASTER – The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force has deemed the scene safe after an active meth lab was discovered in the Alabaster Walmart parking lot on the night of Feb. 23.

Specially trained Hazmat certified Task Force investigators responded to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. after receiving the report of the active meth lab, and encouraged civilians to stay away from the area while the cleanup was under way.

The Task Force, the Alabaster Police Department, the Alabaster Fire Department and the Pelham Fire Department worked for about an hour to decontaminate the scene, and declared it safe at about 9:30 p.m.

“Thank you for your patience during this event,” read a statement from the Task Force. “Thank you to the Alabaster Fire Department, the city of Pelham Fire Department and the Alabaster Police Department for assisting us with this scene.”

As of Feb. 23, no further information had been released in the case.
