Spain Park’s softball players put a loss in the Jag Classic behind them with a 19-9 road win over Hueytown on Wednesday, March 7.

The Jaguars (14-2) pounded out 13 hits, took 10 walks and overcame four errors in the field for the run-rule win.

The story of the game was big innings.

Spain Park scored seven runs in the top of the second inning and plated five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings before scoring its final two runs in the sixth.

Hueytown put three on the board in the bottom of the third and tried to make a run at the lead with six runs in the bottom of the fifth but could not cut the deficit enough to avoid a loss in the shortened game.

Maddie Majors and Alexis Anderson did most of the Jags’ damage at the plate, as each went 3-5.

Majors scored two runs and drove in two more, while Anderson scored one run and recorded five RBI.

Caroline Kendrick walked four times for SPHS and scored a run each time.

Savannah Rogers also displayed patience at the plate, taking three walks along with two runs and two RBI.

Annabelle Widra went 1-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI; Lindsay Parker went 2-5 with three RBI; Caroline Keith went 1-2 with one run and two RBI; and Caroline Wooley went 1-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBI.

Widra earned the win on the mound, allowing five runs—three of which were earned—on three hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings pitched while striking out 12.

Kate Campbell relieved Widra in the circle and allowed four runs—only one of which was earned—on two hits and one walk as she recorded the final out of the game.

Spain Park cruised to wins in its first four games of the Jag Classic tournament before facing Oak Mountain in an elimination game.

The Eagles built a commanding lead in the three-inning game by posting four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

With one out, Oak Mountain put together three consecutive singles before an error and a wild pitch allowed three runs to cross the plate.

Spain Park was able to put two runs on the board in the top half of the next inning thanks to a two-run single from Majors, but the Jags still trailed by one run.

OMHS added an insurance run in the bottom of the second thanks to a Jenna Galloway triple. She eventually scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-3 with one inning remaining.

Spain Park threatened to at least tie the game in the top of the third, as a single and a double to lead off the inning put two runners in scoring position for the Jaguars with no outs.

An error during the next at-bat allowed Parker to score and kept two runners on second and third with no outs, but then Campbell hit into a triple play to end the game.

Majors went 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run scored for Spain Park.

The Jaguars defeated Fort Payne twice (6-2 and 4-1), Brookwood (2-0) and Sumiton Christian (10-1) earlier in the tournament.
