Spain Park High School’s Noah Burns and Tyler Greer combined to shut out Shelby County while being supported by 12 hits in a 12-0 win on Wednesday, March 7.

The Jaguars (6-5) led 4-0 going into the top of the seventh inning but exploded for eight runs to put the game out of reach.

Even without the offensive explosion, Burns and Greer stifled the Shelby County bats.

Burns allowed two hits and four walks in six innings while striking out eight.

Greer pitched the bottom of the seventh, allowing one hit.

Brody Richey paced the Jags at the plate, going 3-4 with three runs scored and one RBI.

Cooper White, Colton Ledbetter and Colby Mills also had multiple hits in the game.

White scored two runs, Mills drove in two, and Ledbetter recorded two runs scored and two RBI.

Sam Dozier went 1-4 with one walk, one run and two RBI.

Spain Park followed up the shut out win over SCHS with a 7-3 loss to Brooks High School on Friday, March 9.

The Jaguars fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning but tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second.

But Brooks plated two runs in the third and two more in the sixth to pull away, thanks in part to five SPHS errors that led to four unearned runs.

White went 2-4 at the plate with one run scored. Richey had two RBI.

Matthew Robbins started on the mound for Spain Park, allowing five runs, three of which were earned, on five hits and two walks in four innings while striking out four.

Neither Dylan Best nor Will May allowed an earned run three innings of relief.

This week, the Jags host Hoover on Monday, March 12, then visit Gadsden City on Wednesday, March 14, and Smiths Station on Friday, March 16.
