ALEA investigating Chelsea hit and run

CHELSEA – Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene of a hit and run accident in the Chelsea Station subdivision of Chelsea on Tuesday, March 13 at 11 a.m.

According to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, 71-year-old Chelsea resident James Fay was struck by a vehicle while walking on a sidewalk. Fay was transported to the UAB medical center shortly after the incident, where he died as the result of his injuries at about 8:45 p.m.

While the identity of the driver has not yet been determined, he was described by the ALEA as a Hispanic male who was driving a minivan.

As of Wednesday, March 14, the ALEA is continuing to investigate the incident. The information from the investigation will be provided to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
