Sharon Cooper has qualified to run for the Shelby County circuit clerk’s position, she announced recently. This marks the first time Cooper has qualified to run for office, and she has worked in the clerk’s office for more than 30 years.

Cooper said the past decade has brought many changes to Shelby County’s our court system. The Alabama Chief justice office implemented the E-Filing system known as Alacourt.

“The court specialists in Shelby County are always eager to be the pilot county for new ideas. We pride ourselves with great trouble-shooting talents to help work out the kinks and help fine tune these applications,” Cooper said. “There is nothing about our current procedures that resemble anything from years gone by.”

Cooper holds a bachelor degree in criminal justice and is a member of Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society.

“I believe that my 30-plus years of experience working in every area of the clerk’s office and my formal education make me uniquely qualified to be the circuit clerk,” Cooper said. “Our goal is to be as efficient as possible and treat each individual with respect and professionalism. I would like to thank Mrs. Harris for her many, many years of service. She has long known of my desire to follow as the next Circuit Clerk of Shelby County.”
