Carmon P. Coker, Jr.
Columbiana

Carmon P. Coker, Jr., age 66, of Columbiana, passed away Thursday, April 5.

The visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday, April 9 at the First Baptist Church of Columbiana. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Dr. Mike Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Gardens. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy King Coker; son, Jacob Daniel Smith; daughter, Julie Ann Smith; father, Carmon Paul Coker, Sr.; mother, Mary Odelle Coker; brother, Rip Coker (Rhonda); sister, Robin Carpenter; two nephews; one niece; and numerous friends.

Carmon was a mapper with the Shelby County Tax Assessor’s Office and had retired April 1 of this year. He was a graduate of The University of North Alabama holding a Bachelor’s Degree in history and geography. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Columbiana.

Carmon was a deeply caring husband and father whose greatest joy in life was his family. He became a father for the first time when he married his wife Nancy, a widow, in 2002, and had the opportunity to help her raise her children. He was a selfless hero who consistently gave of his time and energy, who treasured his wife and children, who made life magical, who brought laughter to his family and friends, and who fought a very brave battle with both colon cancer and melanoma, responding to each challenge with humor, grace, strength, and dignity.

Carmon was also a lover of baseball, a lifelong fan of his beloved San Francisco Giants, enjoyed cars, his Dodge Dakota, and cheesy Westerns. He will be loved, cherished, and remembered forever; our lives have been made richer by his love.

His family expresses deep appreciation and gratitude to Dr. James Evans, the nurses, techs, lab technicians, and schedulers of Alabama Oncology and to the medical staff of Shelby Baptist Medical Center for the excellent care, deep love, and support they gave to Carmon and his family throughout his illness.

The family requests that donations be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church of Columbiana, the American Cancer Society, or the AIM at Melanoma Foundation.
