NORTH SHELBY – The North Shelby Library is seeking four teenage interns to help with its upcoming summer learning programs.

The library won a 2018 Summer Teen Intern Grant from The Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association, with the grant made possible through sponsorship from The Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

The internships will also help teens gain real world work experience and develop professional skills, according to Kate Etheredge, young adult services coordinator at North Shelby Library.

Rising seventh through 12th graders with an interest in science, technology, engineering, arts and/or math are encouraged to apply by April 16.

The library will hold interviews in late April and early May.

Successful applicants will be trained to assist in general library duties, will help with STEAM programs that are already scheduled, and will also plan and implement a STEAM program for 8- to 12-year-olds during the library’s eight-week Summer Reading Program that will kick off June 2.

At the end of summer, interns will receive a stipend of $225.

North Shelby Library is currently seeking applicants for the internships. Interested parties can apply using the application available on the “Teen” page of the library website, NorthShelbyLibrary.org, or by stopping by the Teen Department to pick up an application.

Interns will work a total of 30 hours during an eight-week period. Schedules will be formed specific to each intern dependent on their summer travel plans and other obligations.
