William “Bill” Heywood Blair, age 82 of Calera, passed on to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 17 at Grandview Hospital in Birmingham.

He was born Aug. 11, 1935 in Forkland, son of the late J.D. Blair and the late Fannie Grimes Blair.

He was a maintenance supervisor for Lafarge Cement Company, where he retired after 38 years of service.

Mr. Blair graduated from Montevallo High School. He proudly served his country as a veteran of both the US Army and Marine Corps. He received medals on the President’s 100 rifle team, in the 200 yards rapid fire and national match course, each marksman class 2nd place in Fort Bragg 1960, and 200 yards 3rd UNC at the N.C. State 1960. He was also a faithful member of Calera Baptist Church.

He enjoyed retirement as it allowed him to spend time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and tending his prized garden. It also allowed him to travel the U.S. with his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn Lois Blair. He had a nickname for everyone and story to tell to anyone he knew.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Lois Blair of Calera; children, Lisa Blair (John) Crowe of Paris, Texas, and David Edward (Lori) Blair of Calera; the joy of his life, his grandchildren, Shannon Blair Martin, Elisabeth Lauren Jordan, Dustin Ray Jordan, and Hannah Faith Blair; and brothers, Wailon (Karen) Blair of Eutaw and Wayne Blair of Demopolis.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Fannie Blair; and sisters, Lola Mae McClinton, Mary Emma Lee, and Carolyn Etheridge.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m. from the Calera Baptist Church with the Rev. Stephen Cannon and the Rev. Jason Jarvis officiating. Burial will follow in the Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Calera Baptist Church.
