COLUMBIANA – Cahaba River Park in Shelby County could be even larger than previously planned.

Shelby County Manager Alex Dudchock told the Shelby County Commission at its meeting on Monday, April 23, that Forever Wild is considering a proposal to purchase 311 acres of land that would become part of the park’s south sector.

The park is split into sectors by the Cahaba River. The north sector, which close to opening to the public, comprises 127 acres of county-owned land and 1,212 acres of Forever Wild land.

The south sector is made up of 188 acres of county-owned land, but the Forever Wild acquisition would increase the number to 499 acres in the south sector.

A hearing about the matter will be held May 10 at Tanniehill State Park, Dudchock said.

In other business, the Commission:

•Awarded the bid for technology items including computers, televisions, monitors and other equipment to Dell Marketing LP, which was the only responsive bidder.

•Designated the commission chairperson, commission vice-chairperson, county manager, county chief financial officer and county controller as designated signatures for disbursement of county funds.

•Approved a resolution that allows for the placement of excess funds collected through tax sales in the county’s general fund. Within 10 years after the transfer of the funds, anyone claiming to be the rightful owner of an excess payment can petition the Commission.

•Approved an off-premises retail beer license and off-premises retail table wine application submitted by Troy Marshall representing ALDI, Inc., for its location at 4639 Hwy. 280, Birmingham.

•Approved the vacation of a utility easement in the Dunnavant Square Commercial Subdivision to Dunnavant Commercial LLC. Shelby County Engineer Randy Cole said the property is not needed by the county and is hindering development.
