PELHAM – The Oak Mountain State Fair has returned to the Oak Mountain Amphitheater until Sunday, May 6.

Lisa Le, Oak Mountain State Fair sponsorship and salesperson, said guests can expect to see fair favorites like the Himalayas, Gravitron, Mega Drop and the Mach 3 at the fair this year in addition to a petting zoo, Kiddie Zone and an array of tasty food.

This year the Banana Derby is making its return to Oak Mountain State Fair. The attraction features monkey jockeys riding dogs in a race to the finish line. Guests can also participate in a meet and greet at the Banana Derby.

“We’ve been waiting for about four years to get them here,” Le said. “They’re so popular that there’s a waitlist to book them at a fair.”

This year, the petting zoo will include a camel among other zoo favorites. Guests will be able to feed the animals as well. Vendor highlights include a palm reader, a caricature artist and several artisans selling handmade items.

Le said she is hoping to see more families at the fair this year.

“We listened to the community and have scaled back our prices,” Le said.
