ALABASTER – A Kingwood Christian School musical group recently earned the highest-possible rating at a choir festival featuring performers from across the state.

The KCS Lions choir attended the 2018 Alabama Independent Schools Association Elementary Choral Festival on Friday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Elkdale Baptist Church in Selma under the direction of Linda Murray.

KCS choir members earned a superior rating while performing the following pieces:

-“Mozart Mania” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Words by Mary Kay Beall

Arranged by John Carter

-“I Feel the Spirit” – (Incorporating Traditional Spirituals)

Additional words by Nancy Price

Arranged by Don Besig

The Coordinator for the AISA Choral Festival was Debbie Anderson of Morgan Academy.

The judges at this year’s festival were:

-Dr. Cindy St.Clair – Music Department chair at Judson College

-Rev. Ray Burdeshaw – Past director of music for the Alabama Baptist Convention

-Mike Corley – Retired public school and AISA Band Director

The KCS Lions Choir this year is made up of 15 fourth-graders, six fifth-graders and four sixth-graders.

“It never ceases to amaze me how God works through this group every year to produce an outstanding sound,” said KCS Principal Ruth Gray. “These are three different classes that meet each week to learn their part, so putting them together for a performance is a unique challenge. I love working with these students and am so very proud of them and their accomplishments!”
