One killed in Chelsea collision

CHELSEA – Three vehicles were involved in a collision on U.S. 280, in front of Autry Electronics in Chelsea, on the afternoon of Monday, April 30.

According to Cpl. Steven Smith, the wreck occurred at around 1 p.m., when a pickup truck that was traveling west bound crossed over a median and collided with a commercial vehicle head-on.

Smith said the driver of the pickup truck was killed as the result of the collision. No other injuries or fatalities were reported.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the three westbound lanes on U.S. 280 in that area were shut down for at least an hour.

As of 9:30 a.m. on May 1, the victim’s name had not been released. This report will be updated as more details emerge.
