HELENA–Many people are familiar with the 2004 sports comedy film “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” that provided the famous quote, “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”

On Saturday, May 19, the Helena Athletic Association will have its own form of dodgeball fun by presenting the inaugural “Dawgs on Top” Dodgeball Tournament.

The HAA is looking for six-player teams to register for the tournament that will take place at the Helena High and Helena Middle School gymnasiums.

The cost to enter the tournament is $120 per six-player team for non-students or $60 per six-player team for students.

Registration for the dodgeball tournament can be completed at Helenaathleticassociation.org or forms can be found at HHS or HMS.

Check-in for the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on May 19 followed by the start of the tournament at 10 a.m. for round-robin games for bracket seeding. Once all the teams have been seeded, the brackets will be set and tournament play will begin shortly after.

Once the tournament concludes and the championship trophy is presented to the winning team, barbecue plates including beans, slaw and banana pudding from 2 Men and a Pig will be available for purchase from 3:30-6 p.m. Whole butts will also be available for purchase for $35.

In addition to the dodgeball tournament, the Helena High School varsity football team will have its spring football scrimmage beginning at 6 p.m.

The Helena Athletic Association is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise funds to support Helena’s entire student athletic program. Kids from elementary school through high school benefit from membership in the HAA and the funds from the dodgeball tournament will directly benefit Helena athletic programs.
