ALABASTER – The Angel Warriors Foundation is gearing up to host its second annual 5K and Walk at Veteran’s Park in Alabaster on the from 7-11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2.

According to AWF 5K Lead Dena Wockenfuss, the 5K and Walk serves as a way for the group to raise funds for members of the local special needs community while also raising awareness and support.

“It’s important for the cause of our foundation itself,” Wockenfuss said.

Wockenfuss said the event is open to community members of all ages and abilities. During its first year, Wockenfuss said about 40 people participated.

“We’re hoping it will grow a little bit more,” Wockenfuss said.

Those who register online will receive a race packet, race numbers and a T-shirt, which will be distributed at 7 a.m. on the day of the event. The race will start at 8 a.m., followed by a vendor expo at 9:15 a.m.

Awards will include the top three male and female participants in the following age groups: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and up. Awards will be presented at around 10 a.m.

Registration for children between 6-11 costs $20. The entry fee for participants ages 12 and up is $30.

Registration is open online at Runsignup.com/Race/AL/Alabaster/AngelWarriorFoundation5k until May 31. Wockenfuss said anyone who missed the deadline has the option of registering onsite between 7-7:45 a.m.

Wockenfuss said the proceeds of the 5K and Walk will go toward the many programs and events that AWF organizes throughout the year.

“It’s just another fundraiser to raise money for all of the other projects we have going on,” Wockenfuss said.
