ALABASTER – Alabaster’s Foodland Plus grocery store near the intersection of Alabama 119 and First Street Southwest will be closing its doors for good at the end of business on Saturday, June 16, after operating at the location for about five years.

The grocery store has been operating at the location since late 2013, and is offering a 20-percent discount on most items in the store each day until it closes, according to signage at the store.

Foodland is open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. through Friday, June 15, and is open from 7 a.m. until all inventory is sold on Saturday, June 16.

Foodland opened at the location after the former Belle Foods grocery store closed there earlier in 2013 after its parent company declared bankruptcy. After the company declared bankruptcy, several former Belle Foods stores were purchased by a group of buyers in a plan approved by federal Bankruptcy Court.

The Albertville-based Mitchell Grocery Corporation acquired the Alabaster grocery store through the agreement before opening the Foodland. Mitchell Grocery also operates Foodland stores in Woodstock, Gardendale and Hueytown.
