HELENA – One man has died after being shot to death at an apartment complex in Maylene the evening of Sunday, July 22, according to the Helena Police Department.

The Helena Police Department responded to the call at Fox Valley Apartments at approximately 5:43 p.m. and upon arrival, found Jim William Boykin, 39, dead from a single gunshot wound.

According to police, Boykin, who was a resident of the apartment complex, was behaving erratically and accosted a 46-year-old female neighbor at her residence, which led to her shooting him in self-defense.

Helena Police said the neighbor had recently filed a report with the department and reported that Boykin had threatened them with physical harm. A warrant was issued in that case and Boykin had been arrested and was out on bond pending a court date.

Fox Valley Apartments are not located within the city limits of Helena but are located in the police jurisdiction and the city of Helena provides emergency services to the apartments.

This case remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
