COLUMBIANA – Makalyn Heaslett was crowned Miss Shelby County at the 31st annual Miss Shelby County Pageant held at the Shelby County High School auditorium on July 20 sponsored by the Vignette Club, a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Deseray Stone was also crowned Miss Shelby County Teen. The pageant is preliminary to the Miss Alabama/Miss America Scholarship Pageants.

Heaslett, a student from Muscle Shoals attending at Auburn University, won the talent portion of the pageant with her tap dancing routine. Miss Shelby County will reign for one year with her court: Brooklyn Holt, first runner-up; Harley Chapin, second runner-up; and Lauren Reaves, third runner-up. Other awards given with additional scholarship money were: Holt, swimsuit winner and Nanna Ford Excellence Award; Heaslett, talent winner; Isabelle Powell, Sonja Lefkovits Community Service Award; Emma Owen, Friends of Vignette Award; and Ashly Winkler, Sparkler Congeniality Award.

Stone, a student at Smith Station High School, will serve with her Miss Shelby County Outstanding Teen’s court: Emma Terry, first runner-up and talent winner, and Caitlin Moreno, second runner-up. Stone also won the onstage question and evening wear portion of the pageant. Maggie Alvis is Miss Shelby County Outstanding Teen’s Rising Star.

The Vignette Club is comprised of 38 women from Shelby County who volunteer hundreds of hours and raise thousands of dollars for scholarships for the pageant. Door receipts from the pageant are given back to the community to schools and other non-profit organizations. Current officers are: President Samantha Rush; First Vice President Courtney Dudley; Second Vice President Elizabeth Smith; Secretary Bradan Feldman; and Treasurer Sandra Annonio.
