CHELSEA–A Saturday morning crash on U.S. 280 has resulted in one fatality and another person critically injured, according to a release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on July 28.

The vehicle accident occurred at 9:15 a.m. in the westbound lane of U.S. 280 at the intersection of Chesser Plantation Lane in Chelsea.

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies and Chelsea Fire and Rescue medics responded to the scene and discovered one fatality and another passenger critically injured.

U.S. 280 westbound has been closed and will remain closed for a period of time while investigators work the accident.

Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route and to drive slowly in the area and watch for first responders in the roadway.
