ALABASTER – A pair of neighborhood roads in Alabaster will get fresh surfaces after the City Council voted during a recent meeting to fund the pair of paving projects in the subdivisions.

Council members voted unanimously during their Aug. 27 meeting to pay the Wiregrass Construction company to repave Makena Way and Wembley Way within 30 days of the contracts’ approval.

Makena Way is in the Southfield Gardens neighborhood off Alabama 119 in the southern end of the city, and will be repaved in its entirety. The city agreed to pay Wiregrass Construction $21,570 to repave Makena Way, but about $6,000 of the cost will be offset from the bond the developer put up for the roads when work began on the subdivision.

Wembley Way is in the Weatherly subdivision near the subdivision’s pool and tennis club, and will be repaved between Weatherly Club Drive and Treymoor Lake Circle. The city agreed to pay Wiregrass $27,962 to complete the Wembley Way repaving.

During a previous City Council work session, Alabaster City Manager Brian Binzer said the city is working to repave neighborhood roads as it secures bond money the developers originally put up to ensure the roads were completed satisfactorily, and said the city is working on a list of priority roads in serious need of work.

“You’ve got several roads in neighborhoods that have been lacking a seal coat for years and years, some as long ago as the early 2000s,” Binzer said.
