ALABASTER – Veterans Park off Alabama 119 will be filled with more four-legged visitors than people in early October, as the city of Alabaster is again partnering with the Shelby County Humane Society to hold the annual Bark in the Park event.

The event will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, in Veterans Park. Admission is free, but all dogs are required to be on a leash.

This year’s Bark in the Park will feature adoptable pets from the Shelby County Humane Society, a vaccination clinic, a pet-focused vendor area, pet trick and costume contests, kids’ activities, animal blessings, wiener dog races, live music and food for both dogs and people.

This will mark the 12^th anniversary for Alabaster’s Bark in the Park event, which has drawn thousands of pets and their owners over the years.

The first Bark in the Park was held in October 2007 after the city and the Shelby Humane Society partnered to create the pet-centered festival.

The following activities are planned for the day:

 

-10 a.m.: Group animal blessing

-10:20 a.m.: Mutt strut parade of Shelby County Humane Society adoptable dogs

-10:30 a.m.: Pet costume contest

-11:30 a.m.: Wienie dog race

-1:30 p.m.: Group animal blessing

-9 a.m.-noon: Vaccination clinic
