Kingwood falls at Morgan Academy

SELMA – The Kingwood Lions fell to 5-4 on the season on Oct. 12, as they fell 28-14 on the road to 7-2 Morgan Academy in a region matchup.

Both of Kingwood’s touchdowns came on passes from Garrett Picklesimer, who connected with Garrett Helmers on a 24-yard touchdown pass and connected with Antonio Ruiz for a 16-yard touchdown pass. Mason Collins added PATs after both touchdowns.

Rushing leaders for the Lions were Tyler West, who racked up 46 yards on 12 carries, and Peyton Long, who ended the night with nine carries for 35 yards.

Picklesimer completed 16 of 25 passing attempts for 126 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Ruiz led the Kingwood receiving corps, reeling in four passes for 58 yards and a touchdown, followed by Parker Foushee with five catches for 41 yards.

Defensively for the Lions, Jayton Denard recorded eight solo tackles and two assists, Gage McDaniel had five solo tackles, an assist and a batted pass and Long had four solo tackles, a sack and an assist.

Kingwood will now travel to region foe Bessemer Academy on Oct. 19 to take on the 6-1 Rebels.
