ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council likely will vote to place a lien against a recently demolished property on Kent Dairy Road to help cover the cost the city incurred to tear down a dilapidated structure on the land.

Council members voted during their Oct. 11 meeting to set a public hearing for Nov. 19 on placing a lien against 2030 Kent Dairy Road. The matter will come to a vote the same night.

The city recently covered the cost of demolishing an abandoned house on the property, which came to $5,147. If the lien is placed against the property, which is directly behind the Walgreens store off Alabama 119, it must be repaid before the property can be sold in the future.

The city’s Housing Abatement Board voted previously to recommend the vacant structures be torn down, and passed the matter on to the City Council for final consideration.

The council agreed to fund the demolition during its Aug. 13 meeting.
