ALABASTER – The city of Alabaster will continue a Veterans Day tradition this year, as it will again hold a ceremony to honor local veterans on Nov. 12.

The city’s Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at the veterans’ memorial at Veterans Park off Alabama 119 in southern Alabaster.

“The city of Alabaster’s Veterans Day event is our small way to recognize and show our grateful appreciation for our military men and women’s service,” read a city press release.

The event will begin with a welcome from Alabaster Mayor Marty Handlon, followed by a prayer by local pastor Derrick Morrissette and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Boy Scout Troop 548.

The Thompson High School small choral group will sing the national anthem, and then Alabaster First United Methodist Church Executive Pastor Arthur Harrison will provide the keynote address.

After Harrison’s speech, Troop 548 will conduct a solemn and respectful U.S. flag retirement ceremony, during which troop members will place folded tattered or damaged U.S. flags into an urn to be burned.

Following the ceremony, Handlon will provide closing remarks.
