State Rep. Corley Ellis, R-Columbiana, will continue serving District 41 in the Alabama House of Representatives after winning in the Nov. 6 general election.

In Shelby County, Ellis received 14,034 votes, or 75 percent, while Democrat Emily Anne Marcum received 4,586 votes, or 25 percent, with all but the provisional ballots counted.

“We’re excited and we’re very humbled to have won our re-election bid,” Ellis said. “The fact that we won fairly big is humbling just because it tells me that people are agreeing with what we’re trying to do. It’s very humbling to serve the people and for them to send you back.”

House District 41 includes Columbiana, Harpersville, Wilsonville, Shelby and parts of Calera, Alabaster, Pelham and Chelsea.

Ellis ran unopposed in a special election in 2016 for the Alabama House of Representatives, and was officially sworn into office on Feb. 7, 2017, to serve the remainder of former representative Mike Hill’s term after Hill vacated his seat to serve as the Alabama State Banking Department Superintendent.

Prior to his appointment to the House of Representatives, Ellis served on the Shelby County Commission for 10 years.

Ellis said he was glad to see the “long campaign season” come to a close following Tuesday’s election, and commended his opponent for her efforts.

“I applaud anybody that’s willing to throw their name in a hat and try to make a difference for what they believe in,” he said.

Marcum could not be reached for comment.
