Head-on collision in Calera kills one

CALERA – Police are investigating a fatal head-on collision took place on Alabama 25 around 5:17 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2.

The two-vehicle wreck happened in the County Road 86 area of Alabama 25, according to Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley. Witnesses report that Hunter Spann, 26, was passing a vehicle when he collided head-on with the vehicle driven by Darius Lilly, 28.

Lilly was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck and a juvenile passenger who was in the vehicle with him sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. The juvenile passenger was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Spann sustained serious injuries and was also transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The wreck is still under investigation by the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Investigations Taskforce.
