JEMISON – Montevallo’s defense limited the Jemison Panthers to nine points or less in all four quarters of a matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 11, which led the Bulldogs to pick up a dominant 67-27 victory on the road.

Montevallo (4-5, 1-0) was coming off an 0-2 week and looking for any sort of momentum they could get, and in the opening period the Bulldogs found it via their defense.

While they had the lowest point total of the four quarters themselves with 12 points, the Bulldogs were able to limit Jemison to their lowest quarter total of the game as well at five points.

The strong start on that end of the floor for Montevallo set the tone for the game and gave the team confidence with a 12-5 advantage at the end of one quarter.

In the second period, Montevallo’s offense started to heat up slightly, while the defense yet again held the Panthers to a slim total of seven points.

That presence on the defensive side of the floor, led to several opportunities on the offensive end as the Bulldogs were able to post 15 more points to take a 27-12 lead into the halftime break.

Despite the large lead, the game wasn’t put away, and Montevallo was still looking to breakout offensively to do so.

That happened coming out of the locker room in the second half.

The Bulldogs put together their best quarter of the game on both ends of the floor. They were able to limit Jemison to just six points with more hounding defense, which led to a dominant quarter on the offensive end.

Montevallo was able to post 26 points in the quarter, which was just one point shy of equaling the Bulldogs’ entire first-half total, which busted the game open and gave them a 53-18 lead heading to the final quarter of play.

The Bulldogs closed the strong defensive game out by allowing just nine points in the final quarter, while posting 14 more points on the offensive end to pick up the 67-27 win.

Davion Gilbert led the way for Montevallo with 21 points, while Jamarius Carter continued strong play in the post with 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
