FROM STAFF REPORTS

ALABASTER – Alabaster Police Department Capt. Grant Humphries and 250 classmates from 50 states and 23 countries graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on Friday Dec. 14.

The FBI National Academy is a prestigious 10-week leadership course designed for law enforcement executives from around the world. Acceptance into this intense program is no easy task, as less than 1 percent of law enforcement executives in the world are afforded this opportunity.

The overall goal of the Academy is to support, promote and enhance the personal and professional development of law enforcement leaders by preparing them for complex, dynamic and contemporary challenges through innovative techniques, facilitating excellence in education and research and forging partnerships throughout the world.

The course included instruction in law, behavioral science, forensic science, understanding terrorism/terrorist mindsets, leadership development, communication, and health/fitness.

The National Academy also places an emphasis on physical fitness. Humphries and his classmates completed 10 weeks of physical fitness challenges along with a grueling 6.1-mile obstacle course known as the “Yellow Brick Road.”

Humphries thanked the police department administration and city officials for this opportunity and he also thanked his wife, Janette, for holding the household together during his absence.
