Elizabeth Frost “Bettye” Garrett, age 78, of Shelby, has gone to be with her Heavenly Father.

On Thursday, Jan. 3 at approximately 8 a.m., she left her earthly body that had been filled and recently diagnosed with cancer, to move forward having been made new in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 5 from 12-1 p.m. at Bay Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Bro. Johnye Horton officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Springs Cemetery. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

She was a long-time and beloved teacher in both the Shelby County School system and the Mobile County School system, prior to returning to Shelby County and retiring after 40 years.

She was a member of Bay Springs Baptist Church where she continued teaching a Sunday School class with the Ladies of Bay Springs.

Bettye is survived by her husband, Gerald T. Garrett; two children, Angel Harris (Eddie) and Andy Garrett (Dona); grandchildren, Adrianne Blackwood (Pat), Andrew Harris (Amber), Sy Garrett, Austin Harris, and Breanna Garrett; great grandchildren, Ava and Jack; and four sisters, Shirley Sweat (EL/Bubba), Gladys Myers (Tom), Brenda Raines (Delano), and Charlotte Hall (Jim).

Bettye had a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored very dearly! To all of these who are shown as her survivors, she would say to all, how proud she was of each!!
