ALABASTER – Those interested in becoming a Thompson cheerleader will have a chance to sharpen their skills and learn from program coaches and staff during a couple of upcoming clinics in January and February.

The first clinic will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., and the second clinic will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Both clinics will be held in the Thompson Middle School cafeteria.

During the clinics, which are open to students currently in grades fifth through eighth, Thompson cheerleading program coaches and staff members will teach attendees the skills necessary to be successful at cheer tryouts, including instructions in the areas of jumps, dance, tumbling, cheers and chants.

Current Thompson High School cheerleaders will assist the coaches and staff members during the clinics.

The clinics are not mandatory to try out for the TMS or THS cheerleading squads.

Cost will be $30 per clinic, or $50 if attending both, and the $50 must be paid at the first clinic if attending both. All proceeds will benefit the Thompson cheerleading program.
