After several days of unseasonably warm weather, including a picture-perfect weekend from Jan. 5-6, winter weather is returning to Shelby County this week, according to the National Weather Service office in Calera.

Tuesday, Jan. 8, will mark the last day for spring-like high temperatures, as the thermometer is set to drop steadily on Tuesday night. However, Shelby County residents likely will see a reprieve from the constant rain the area has seen so far this year.

The high temperature will be in the mid-60s on Monday and Tuesday, with overnight lows dipping down to 52 on Monday night. Temperatures will drop into the low 40s overnight on Tuesday, and Wednesday will bring a high of about 50.

On Wednesday night, lows will plummet into the high 20s, Thursday will bring a high of only 46, Thursday night will see a low hovering around freezing and Friday will see a high of about 50.

Entering the weekend, Friday night will see a 50 percent chance of showers with a low around 39, and Saturday will likely see some rain with a high around 50.

Saturday night will see a 40 percent chance of showers with a low around 40, and Sunday will see a 20 percent chance of showers with a high around 51.
