ACS honors Thompson Middle School cheerleaders

ALABASTER – The Thompson Middle School cheerleaders have had plenty of experience spending time in the spotlight over the last several months, as they won a gamut of awards at multiple regional, state and national competitions during their 2018-2019 season.

Although the team’s season is now over, the accolades are still pouring in.

During a standing-room-only Alabaster Board of Education meeting on March 11, the Alabaster Board of Education honored the TMS cheerleaders for their stellar season.

The team, which is coached by Suzanne Lee, Richard Sutton and Lindsey Claire Weathers, had strong showings at several competitions during the season.

In October 2018, the team placed second in the Junior High Game Day category, and placed fourth in the Traditional Large Junior High categories at the Tennessee Extreme Regional competition in Brentwood, Tennessee.

On Nov. 3, 2018, the TMS cheerleaders were crowned champions in the Junior High Game Day category in the North Alabama Regional in Huntsville. Later the same month, the team placed first in the Junior High Game Day category and third in the Traditional Large Junior High category at the AHSAA North Super Regional in Birmingham.

On Dec. 2, 2018, the team placed third in both the Junior High Game Day and Traditional Large Junior High categories at the Dixie School Championship in Jackson, Mississippi, and were named champions in both categories in the Southern School Championship in Birmingham on Dec. 8, 2018.

At the AHSAA State Championship in mid-December 2018, the team were named state champions in the Junior High Game Day category, and placed second in the Traditional Large Junior High category.

From Feb. 8-11, the team competed in the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida, where they won the semifinal pool in the Junior High Game Day category, placed third in the Junior High Game Day finals and were named national semifinalists in the Traditional Large Junior High category.
