ALABASTER – The Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library will hold its semiannual book and bake sale from April 5-7 in the community room at the library, which is at 100 Ninth St. N.W.

“The mission of the Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library in Alabaster is simple. Any library can significantly enhance its mission in its community with additional non-designated funds. Programs can be improved, especially children’s’ programs, with inexpensive snacks and giveaways,” according to the group. “Holiday and seasonal decorations enhance the ambiance and attractiveness of this venue for learning and educational enjoyment. Money to pay for a resource just beyond the reach of budgeted funds can make a big difference. Raising such funds is the purpose of the Friends of the Library group.”

For the sale, the organization will accept donated books, arrange them by type, and sell them inexpensively to local citizens. Book lovers can often find just the book they have intended to read and buy it for $1 or less. All money raised during the event will go directly to enhance the effectiveness of the Alabaster Library.

The Friends of the Albert L. Scott Library will host their semi-annual book and bake sale the first weekend in April at the library.

The sale will be open only to Friends of the Library members from 5-7 p.m. on April 5, and will be open to the public on April 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and on April 7 from 1-3 p.m.

The sale will feature recent fiction from popular authors, cookbooks, biographies, Christian fiction, children’s books and books in many other genres. Hardbacks are $1, while paperbacks and all children’s books are 50 cents. Books on CD and DVDs will be available for $2 each.

Proceeds allow the organization help the library with funding to enhance annual programming, especially children’s events.

For those who would like to become a Friends of the Library member to take advantage of the advance shopping day on April 5, yearly dues for the organization are $10. On the afternoon of April 7, patrons can pay $6 for an “all you can bag” clearance.
