PELHAM – More than 300 children were on the field blowing bubbles at Pelham City Park for the Pelham Youth Baseball and Softball League opening ceremony on March 16.

Youth Sports Director Scott Verner said the event was wildly popular, explaining that 18 of the league’s 19 teams participated in the opening ceremony, and there was a large turnout of family and community members.

The bubble blowing was part of the “Bubbles For Love” campaign, an event sponsored by the Alabama Family Rights Association, or ALFRA, meant to bring awareness to parental alienation.

Nearly 250 bottles of bubbles were handed out to players and coaches for the event. The bubbles are meant to symbolize how love “can not be contained,” according to ALFRA representative Kenneth Paschal.

The partnership was intended to make the event a “parental alienation-free zone,” according to Verner. He said the goal was to foster cooperation and “to make sure that both parents are taking a major role in the children’s life.”

Other offerings from the event included a raffle with various prizes from local businesses.

Sponsors for the event include Golden Rule BBQ, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Coca-Cola.
