PELHAM– Seniors at Pelham High School spent the morning of March 22 at the school’s football field playing games and celebrating the upcoming end of their time in high school.

“It’s fun and exciting seeing everyone make teams and have fun,” said senior Claire Clemmons. “We’re all excited to graduate, but it is sad to let go of friends.”

Around 200 seniors came out to the football field Thursday morning and had the opportunity to participate in 12 unique games, relay races and a rock wall climb provided by the National Guard.

Field Day is the kickoff to a variety of events that eventually lead up to graduation. One of the most important aspects of the event is fostering inclusivity and teamwork among the students.

“The great thing about field day is that everybody gets to participate,” said senior sponsor Alisa Kreel. “The students have to sign up as a team, figure out their uniforms as a team and work together to get the most points.”

Some of the notable activities were a javelin throw, a frisbee competition and a game called “Cookie Face.” This game involves balancing a cookie on top of your head and trying to get it into your mouth without touching it.

“Everyone is just having fun and chilling,” said senior Daniel Roman. “I’m excited for all of this, but I’m really excited to graduate and go to college.”

In addition to the rock wall, the National Guard also provided all the food for the event. This helped offset some costs and helped make the day more successful, according to Kreel.

The event is organized every year by a group of teachers called the Senior Sponsors. This year that included Alisa Kreel, Jean Coker, Jessica Schach and Julie Nelson.
