ALABASTER – There was never a doubt in Thompson picking up its 25th win of the season on Tuesday, April 2, as the Warriors posted 15 runs on 15 hits to pull away for a 15-6 victory against the Chelsea Hornets at Warrior Park.

Thompson (25-3, 3-0) scored seven combined runs in the first two innings, added one apiece in the third and fifth innings and then bookended the performance with six runs in the sixth to close out the win.

The dominant effort included no errors defensively and saw the Warriors outhit Chelsea 15-6, which oddly enough resulted in the exact same number in the score column.

In the bottom of the first, Thompson started off with a bang thanks to a two-run home run from Kennedy Foote and a two-out RBI single from Madison Plunkett to drive home Grace Robertson for a 3-0 lead through one inning of play.

The Warriors quickly added to that lead in the bottom of the second thanks to a leadoff triple from Lauren Cabiness and an RBI double from Taylor Cordova.

Three batters later, Foote drove in another run on a sac fly before Robertson hit a solo homer to center field to put the Warriors on top 7-0 at the end of the second inning.

Chelsea (12-8, 3-0) put a slight answer together in the top of the third with a two-run homer from Camryn Smith to cut the deficit to 7-2 and wake up the Hornets at the plate.

After Thompson answered with a run in the bottom half on a sac fly from Kindal DeRamus, Chelsea stepped back to the plate looking to put together its best inning of the game down 8-2.

With a single and three consecutive walks, the Hornets were able to score one run and keep the bases loaded with no outs.

The damage, however, was minimal as the next two runs came on a sac fly and a wild pitch with no more hits, allowing Thompson to escape the inning with an 8-5 lead.

Chelsea was back in the game, but couldn’t ever regain that confidence at the plate.

The two teams traded one run in the bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth to keep it a three-run game heading to the bottom of the sixth, which is where the Warriors put it away.

A leadoff double from Mikayla Touhey and an RBI single from Plunkett was just the start of the inning. Later in the frame, a two-RBI double from Ella Pate and a two-RBI single from DeRamus made it 14-6. DeRamus then scored on a groundout from Haskins to end the game’s scoring with Thompson’s 15th run.

Thompson was led by both DeRamus and Foote. The duo each went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. Plunkett went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Robertson went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Touhey and Abby Kellogg both went 2-for-4 at the plate as well.

Pate added two RBIs, while Haskins and Cordova each added an RBI as well.

Madison Holtzapfel, Eleanor DeBlock and Heaven Rodgers combined to allow six hits, six runs and eight walks in the game while striking out five.

Chelsea was led by Smith who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
