ACS honors Thompson cheerleaders for stellar season

ALABASTER – The Thompson High School cheerleaders were no stranger to success during their most recent season, and they had a chance to take the spotlight one more time during an April 8 Alabaster Board of Education meeting.

During the meeting’s “Good things happening in our schools” section, Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers and School Board members honored the 2018-2019 THS cheerleading teams for their accomplishments.

The cheerleaders brought home plenty of hardware during the 2018-2019 season:

-At the North Alabama Regional Competition at Sparkman High School, THS placed second in the Large Junior Varsity category, third in the Large Varsity Category, were North Alabama Regional Champions in the Super Large Game Day division and all teams received a bid to the national competition.

-At the Alabama High School Athletic Association North-Regional Qualifier at the Birmingham Crossplex, Thompson won the Large Junior Varsity category, placed fifth in the Large Varsity category, placed fourth in the Super Large Game Day category and all teams received bids to the state competition.

-At the Southern Schools Regional Competition at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, THS won the Large Junior Varsity category, placed fifth in the Large Varsity category, placed third in the Super Large Game Day category and all teams received bids to the national competition.

-At the Alabama State Championships at Wallace State-Hanceville, THS placed second in the Large Junior Varsity, placed fifth in the Large Varsity category and won the state title in the Super Large Game Day division by beating 22 other teams.

-At the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida, the team made it to the semifinals in the Super Large Game Day category, made it to semifinals in the Large Varsity category and placed ninth in the nation in the Large Junior Varsity category and received a bid to the World Competition next year.

The following cheerleaders were honored during the meeting. The teams’ manager is Abbey Rogers and coaches are Angie Glover, Brittney Sport and Erin Taliaferro.
