PELHAM – Pelham Ridge Elementary School’s third Color the Ridge Run is set for Saturday, April 27, with races beginning at 8 a.m.

P.E. teacher and event coordinator Tammy Causey said the event, which takes place at Fun Go Holler Park, will consist of a 5k run and a 1-mile fun run. The event isn’t just for Pelham Ridge students and parents, but for the entire community.

“You do not have to be associated with the school to participate,” Causey said. “Our goal is to promote health and show families that they can have fun together while also getting in some exercise.”

The proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Heart Association.

“As a school, we’re promoting a healthy lifestyle and we wanted to donate to a charity that we feel has the same values,” Causey said. “We connect lessons about healthy lifestyles to our P.E. curriculum and we teach lifelong healthy habits.”

Last year’s Color the Ridge Run raised about $4,000 for the American Heart Association and this year’s event is already shaping to be bigger and better. A total of 240 people participated in last year’s run, and so far, 270 have already pre-registered for the upcoming run.

Registration for the 5k will take place at 7 a.m. on the day of the event and the race begins at 8 a.m. Registration for the 1-mile fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event and the run starts at 9:30 a.m. The cost to participate is $25 per person.

Those who registered for the event before April 5 can pick up their T-shirt and gift bag on April 26 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Pelham Ridge. Those who did not register by April 5 can pick up their items at the park on the day of the event.

The deadline to guarantee an event T-shirt has already passed, but those still interested in signing up are encouraged to do so. Participants will receive a bag of colored powder upon registration and there will be a group color splash after each run.

Kona Ice will be onsite offering shaved ice selections and the park includes a playground for children.
