COLUMBIANA – Several roads throughout the county will see fresh surfaces in the coming weeks, thanks to a large repaving undertaking the Shelby County Highway Department is proceeding with.

During an April 22 Shelby County Commission meeting, County Engineer Randy Cole discussed the specifics of the project, which will hit several parts of the county, including some subdivision roads.

In total, the repaving projects will cost about $5 million, about half of which is included in the Highway Department’s fiscal year 2019 budget. The remainder of the cost will come from the department’s reserves, Cole said.

Some of the projects are being funded by cities, but are being bid along with the county’s repaving projects.

“We’re going to bid it out on Thursday of this week (April 25), and we’re going to try to get the contractor started as quickly as we can,” Cole said.
