PELHAM – Area residents will have an opportunity to try out a Refit group exercise class at the Pelham Recreation Center at no cost on Friday, May 3.

Parks and Recreation manager on duty Scott Verner said the event will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. with multiple instructors taking turns leading the class.

“When the rec center first opened, we wanted to offer one free group exercise class per quarter to give the community an opportunity to try out our classes,” Verner said. “Everyone has heard about Zumba, yoga and Pilates, but some people aren’t as familiar with Refit.”

The purpose is to get the word out about what classes are offered at the rec center. Verner said those participating in the class don’t have to stay the entire time and can come and go as they please.

The Refit instructors at the rec center teach two types of classes, Refit and Rev-Flow. Refit combines dancing, toning, balance and flexibility.

Rev-Flow is a dynamic workout that’s easy on the joints without compromising the intensity of the workout. Rev-Flow strengthens bodies and sculpts muscles through music-based movements and resistance training.

Both classes are suitable for beginners and fitness enthusiasts because they can be tailored to suit each person regardless of age, size or ability. The cost is $5 per class.

Although a person has to live in Pelham in order to become a member of the rec center, that’s not the case when it comes to participating in an exercise class. Verner said anyone can sign up to participate in the classes.

To sign up for a rec center class, go to PelhamAlabama.gov, click on the Parks and Recreation link and then click on Recreation Center.

Verner said the rec center plans to offer more opportunities for the community to try exercise classes for free.
