PELHAM – With cases of fraud and scams on the rise, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging have partnered to educate the public about what they can do to protect themselves.

Freedom from Fraud will be hosted at the Pelham Civic Complex on Monday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to the public, but people age 50 and above are especially encouraged to attend since that age group tends to be targeted the most.

The event aims to identify, expose and prevent cases of fraud and scams. A panel of experts representing private, local, state and federal organizations will share information about fraud prevention.

Each day thousands of people are targeted by scammers attempting to gain access to their banking information and credit cards. Learn about the latest scams and how you can protect yourself.

The panel will provide consumers with examples of what to look out for and information on what to do if you become a victim of fraud or identity theft victim. Panelists will be available to answer questions both during and after the event.

Parking is free and lunch will be provided. Register online at Aarp.cvent.com/PelhamFFF or call 877-926-8300.
