PELHAM – Students in Calera High School’s Class of 2019 celebrated the culmination of years of hard work as they walked across the stage to receive their high school diplomas on Tuesday, May 21, at the Pelham Civic Complex.
As keynote speaker Ken Mobley, former CHS teacher, assistant principal and principal, spoke in front of 204 graduating seniors and their proud families and friends, he encouraged them to embrace failure because it allows them to grow. He also told them not to be afraid to reach for the stars.
“What you think about comes about,” he said. “We can accomplish anything if we first go there in our minds. You can achieve anything.”
No matter where life takes them, Mobley told the students to always remember their community and to “come back and help it grow.”
The Class of 2019 raked in about $5 million in scholarship offers, said CHS principal Branden Vincent. Two students joined the military and one plans to enter the workforce after receiving a job offer from a local construction company.
