The organizing meeting for Birmingham’s newest DAR Chapter was held March 5 at Meadow Brook Baptist Church.

Honored guest Tammy Clemons, Alabama State Regent, installed new officers.

The chapter is currently seeking new membership to expand its local programs.

Sally Woolley, regent of the new chapter, and a group of 30 ladies – who can trace their ancestors back to the United States’ birth – started the Oak Mountain DAR chapter this winter.

Careful thought was put into the chapter’s name: Members selected Oak Mountain because of its beautiful physical landscape that encompasses Alabama’s largest state park.

The Oak Mountain DAR Chapter meets monthly on weeknights.

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution qualifies for membership.  Prospective members do not have to find their patriots for membership alone because the chapter’s genealogist volunteers are willing to help.

DAR is a dynamic organization making a difference in the community through the objectives of historic preservation, education and patriotism.

Members come from all walks of life, but all enjoy fostering good citizenship, honoring ancestors, educating youth and preserving the past for future generations.
