PELHAM – A new attraction has been making waves at Oak Mountain State Park.

Flip Side Watersports, the business responsible for aquatic fun at OMSP’s Beaver Lake, opened the Inflatable Aqua Park in May. The floating inflatable obstacle course was open on weekends only for most of May, but its grand opening celebration was May 25-27. The attraction is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Starting in mid-August, the inflatable park will once again operate only on weekends before closing for the season in October.

Flip Side also owns the state’s first cable wakeboard course, which opened in 2014 on the same lake, and offers kayaks, canoes and paddle boards for rental.

The floating obstacle course includes two slides, moon jump, a balance beam, a wave section and more. Kristen Talbot owns the business with her husband Jeremy.

“We’re always looking for ways to get people outside and ways to add to what we currently offer,” Kristen Talbot said. “Different people like to do different things, so we just wanted to provide another option so that every member of the family can come here and find something they enjoy.”

Once the summer season ends, Talbot said the inflatable will be deflated, packed up and put in storage for the winter months.

Passes are $15 per person for a 45-minute session. If a guest wants to patriciate in the water obstacle course for a second time in one day, the cost is $10. Oak Mountain State Park entry fees are not included in this price.

All participants must be present for a 15-minute safety briefing prior to the start of the session. The course can accommodate 30 people at a time, so there may be brief waiting period. Groups of 15 people are sent out every 30 mins, with each group getting a 45-minute session.

Participants must be at least 7 years old, be able to swim and at least 45 inches tall. All participants must also wear a life jacket, which will be provided by Flip Side. The only way to get to and from the aqua park is by swimming, that’s why it’s a must that every participant be able to swim.

In order to participate, guests must sign a waiver. Participants under the age of 19 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver. Waivers and the check-in process can be completed online prior to arriving at water park.

Talbot said the park can accommodate corporate events and private parties with up to 30 people. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to FlipSideAL.com.
