Pelham youth softball, baseball teams make it to state tourneys

PELHAM – This year several of the city of Pelham’s youth sports teams made it to state tournaments taking place this year.

The city’s 8U Softball All-Star Girls, 8U All-Star Baseball All-Star National Team, 10U All-Star Baseball and 12U All-Star Baseball all made it to the state tournaments.

The 8U girls’ softball team played in the state tournament in Calera during the weekend of June 21-23. They were the first Pelham team to win their way into a state softball tournament since 2012, said Scott Verner with Pelham Parks and Recreation.

The team finished second in the USSSA South Central Area Tournament and finished in the top 25 in the state.

“This group has worked really hard the last few years to make it to this level,” Verner said. “We are so incredibly proud of the work they have put in.”

The 8U Boys Baseball Nationals All-Stars finished second in both the district tournament and area tourney. The team will be the seeded in the top 4 seed in the 16-team state tournament being held in Madison.

The 10U Boys Baseball All-Stars finished second in the district tournament and third in the area tournament. They will be seeded in the top 8 in the 16-team state tournament played June 28-July 2 in Madison.

The 12U Boys Baseball All Stars finished first in both district and area tournaments. The team went undefeated in both tournaments and will be the overall No. 2 seed in the 16-team state tournament being held in Madison.
