COLUMBIANA – Shelby County is partnering with the University of Alabama Research Team for ongoing strategic planning efforts.

The county is seeking at least 3,000 responses to a quality of life survey about current community service demands, requirements and expectations, County Manager Alex Dudchock told the Shelby County Commission at its meeting on Monday, July 8.

The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete and can be accessed at UniversityofAlabama.az1.qualtrics,com/jfe/form/SV_0NBBk4z0vT11jmZ, or by visiting ShelbyAL.com and following the link under the “County News” section.

It is voluntary, anonymous, and respondents can skip any questions that make them uncomfortable.

In other business, the Commission:

  • Approved a resolution declaring that an unpermitted garbage dump site off Shelby County 406 in Shelby is in violation of the county’s sanitation regulations. The site, which is about 14 acres of undeveloped land, is visible from the public right-of-way, according to the resolution, and three notices have been sent to the property about the violation. The resolution also authorizes Dudchock and the county attorney to begin civil action to remediate the site.
  • Approved an amendment to the articles of incorporation of the Shelby County Economic Industrial Development Authority. The amendment changes the SCEIDA board to match the 58 INC. board, which will allow the boards to hold concurring meetings.
  • Approved the appointment of Tamara Lewis to the Shelby County Community Corrections Corporations Board to fulfill the unexpired term of Butch Burbage following his resignation.
