Hoover police received a report at about 10 p.m. on July 17 of someone in a black sports utility vehicle attempting to pull over motorists on Greystone Way near Castlehill Road, according to information provided by the Hoover Police Department.

Officers responded to the area but were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.

At 12:19 a.m., police received a call from a victim stating someone in a black SUV pulled in behind her vehicle and activated flashing red and blue lights on Greystone Way.

The SUV then pulled in front of her vehicle, forcing her to stop. She stated a male exited the vehicle and produced some type of badge.

The victim was uncertain this was an actual officer so she drove away and called 911.

Responding officers located a black GMC Yukon with a male matching the description on Greystone Way near Linkside Drive.

A red and blue dash light, three firearms, a Drug Enforcement Agency hat and three fake badges were located inside the vehicle, according to HPD.

James Andrew Gray was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Hoover City Jail, to be transported to the Shelby County Jail later on July 18.

Gray has been charged with impersonating a peace officer and is being held on a $5,000 bond.

Anyone who has information about the case or thinks they may have been stopped by Gray should contact Sgt. Reggie Parker at 739-7448.
