ALABASTER – Fans of smooth jazz will again have a chance to enjoy smooth sounds in the fall air this year, as the city has partnered with the Alabaster Arts Council and the Shelby County Arts Council to continue this musical tradition.

The Alabaster City Council approved a resolution at a meeting on July 15 allocating $2,000 for the event. The total cost of the event is $5,000. The Alabaster Arts Council is contributing $2,000 and the Shelby County Arts Council is giving $1,000.

The event will be held Oct. 6 from 6-9 p.m. on the municipal lawn next to the Alabaster Senior Center and Alabaster City Hall at 1953 Municipal Way. Jazz in the Park is free to the public.

Musicians Choko Aiken and On Purpose featuring Dwight Houston are set to take the stage.

This will mark the fourth straight year Alabaster has hosted Jazz in the Park, which draws dozens of visitors each year and is presented by Magic City Smooth Jazz.

Magic City Smooth Jazz is a nonprofit organization with a mission to expose and engage audiences in culturally underserved communities to various styles of jazz music. All aspects of the event, such as booking talent and professional staging, are handled by the organization.

In the past, food trucks have been on site for the concert, and parking was available at City Hall, the Senior Center and surrounding areas.
